Better health through better information about

acupuncture’s scientific evidence

Evidence Based Acupuncture was created to show the current state of knowledge about acupuncture, using the language of science. We are a community run project providing simple, trustworthy and robust evidence-based tools that will empower acupuncturists and acupuncture as equal among medicines, improving public health and saving lives.

Acupuncture: An Overview

of Scientific Evidence

With nearly 1,000 systematic reviews of acupuncture, getting a sense of what the evidence shows can be a challenge. Fortunately, the entire literature base was summarized in 2010 by the Australian Department of Veteran Aairs. This review was updated in 2014 by the US Department of Veteran Aairs 2 and then again in 2017 by John McDonald and Stephen Janz, the authors of the Acupuncture Evidence Project.

Evidence Based Summaries

The evidence summaries produced by Evidence Based Acupuncture are fully referenced literature reviews of the most up to date evidence for acupuncture in a variety of clinical areas. We draw on up to date systematic reviews and basic science research and include discussions of popular treatments for these same conditions. A team of volunteer researchers edits and reviews each summary for quality, accuracy and consistency. We are thrilled to make these available to you for free, both on our website and as a PDF download.

The EBA Symposium

The EBA is run by volunteers and leaders all over the world who see a central role for acupuncture in the future of medicine and know that this won’t happen on its own, that we must work together with creativity and compassion to make it so. A big part of this goal is about empowering you, the practitioner, who is fascinated by science and the human body and practices a powerful medicine developed in a dierent time and place. Feeling congruent and confident in the context of modern healthcare can be challenging without the right tools and understanding.
