Acupuncture is well known for its effectiveness in treatment of pain. Studies researching its mechanisms reveled also anti-inflammatory action of acupuncture. Inflammation is a basis of many modern diseases including disturbances of respiratory system like asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, allergic rhinitis and others. This article summarizes current knowledge about the effectiveness of acupuncture in the treatment of those diseases. Moreover, molecular mechanisms of anti-inflammatory action of acupuncture in respiratory system are discussed in details.
