In this review, the anterior cingulate gyrus, hippocampus, and putamen were high-frequency brain areas in the limbic system engaged in acupuncture for primary dysmenorrhea.

The central mechanism of acupuncture for PD may be achieved by stimulation causing alterations in brain function and changes in diferent regional networks that activate the associated nociceptive and nociceptive cognitive systems.
