Acupuncture may be an option to increase the rate of spontaneous labor onset. The main findings of this study show a significant increase in the spontaneous onset of labor rate in favour of acupuncture compared to no intervention.

This study provides insight into the role of previously underrepresented physical aspects such as maternal age ≥ 35 and high body mass index in the effectiveness of acupuncture in spontaneous onset of labor.
